American Craft Week

spritz and splatter

Last week, I participated in a “Spritz and Splatter” event with my B&B innkeeper friends.  As I was indulging in my “artistic endeavor”, I thought about how our B&B is decorated by the work of many talented people.  We have paintings done by my father, beautiful quiltshand made by my daughter-in-law, Erin and friend, Kristen.  We have a gorgeous stain glass window by Debbie Bowker, and beautiful pottery from local artisans.

I realized how artistic talent can be taken for granted or perhaps, not appreciated for the work, time and talent given to each piece.

Now is the perfect time to show your appreciation to these dedicated artists.  The next two weeks (October 1-16) is American Craft Week throughout the country, and Cumberland Valley, is participating with the “Treasures of the Valley Tour”.   There are 20 businesses in the area that are participating in the “tour”.  See www.CumberlandValleycom/Craft for the participating shops and a Calendar of Events.  It is a perfect time to visit these shops and other boutiques.  Perhaps you can do some of your Christmas shopping a litte early.

This year, the Cumberland Valley B&B Association is offering our support.  There will be a grand prize drawing for a 2 night stay in one of our local B&Bs.  So if you visit one of the businesses, there will be a card to fill out, and perhaps you will be the fortunate winner.

There is so much to see in the Cumberland Valley this time of the year.  In addition to visiting these shops, there are many local festivals and plenty of places to stop and have a delicious taste of the town.

Why not come to Cumberland Valley and spend a night or two.  We welcome you to the Red Cardinal Bed and Breakfast.  Come and see the beautiful art work that adorns our home, and enjoy a hearty “country breakfast” in the morning.
